Final Date Engraving

At Virginia Monument Company, we offer the service of adding an inscription or final date to an existing memorial in the cemetery. Our skilled team ensures that the new engraving matches the style of the original. Engravings can be done directly on the headstone at the cemetery site. Orders are usually fulfilled within 60 days, and once completed, a statement will be sent to you for confirmation. The cost to engrave a full date, such as "January 5, 2001," is $300.

Virginia Monument Company provides you and your family with cleaning, refurbishing and restoration services related to the care of your loved one’s memorial and monument. We take a customized approach to each project based upon client needs, memorial type and cemetery. We restore everything from contemporary memorials and monuments to historical headstones or grave markers to full cemetery restorations.

Monument Cleaning

Full cleaning includes an acid wash with brushes and pumice stone to remove alkali, minerals and tree sap and expose the original shine of the polished surfaces. Our cleaning staff is professionally trained to take great care in the cleaning of each project. Whether your cleaning project is a monument, grass marker, bronze plaque, columbarium or mausoleum, Virginia Monument Company works with you and your family to ensure your loved one’s memorial looks like it is new.

Cemetery Restorations

Restoration of stones often requires a varied scope of work that typically includes raising and leveling, re-jointing, new foundations and in some cases, replacement. The standards for setting stones is very familiar to us. We appreciate those standards, adhere to them in every restoration project and are committed to preserving the historic characteristics and craftsmanship of every stone.

Revitalizing 3 Surface Types


Granite: Thorough acid wash clean using brushes and pumice stone to eliminate alkali, minerals, and tree sap. Re-emphasizing name panels and intricately hand-painting all lettering and designs by our talented in-house artist.



Marble: Meticulously hand-buffed with warm water and polishing pads to eliminate alkali, minerals, and tree sap. Re-emphasizing name panels and intricately hand-painting all lettering and designs by our talented in-house artist.


Bronze: Skillfully wire brushed to eliminate all alkali, minerals, and paint. Restored surface is re-painted. All raised surfaces (letters, dates, designs, and borders) are sanded and buffed to reveal the brilliant bronze shine. Finished with a clear coat.
